Your Wedding

If you have just become engaged – congratulations!

Who knows how many couples have made their vows and had their marriage blessed in Rusper over the last 800 years, since a church has stood here? From a very traditional wedding in a historic building, to a modern blessing with all your own personal touches, every such occasion is unique and personal.

Lots of people marry in their own local church, but you might like to marry somewhere different. You do not have to be a regular church goer or have an existing connection with Rusper parish, you can establish one by monthly Sunday attendance, or if that is impractical you can have a blessing that mirrors a traditional wedding. You do not have to have been Christened.

If you’re marrying in Rusper Church and that’s not where you live, we would still love to support you as you prepare for the wedding. Talk to our Rector, Nick, well in advance to discuss the options open to you.

He will be happy to talk you through all the practical steps and create your own unique occasion. ‘God is love’ and the door of God’s house is open to welcome everyone to your celebration.

“I am so delighted we chose to get married at St Mary Magdalene, Rusper. It was the perfect place for our ceremony. I don’t identify as Christian and initially I had some doubts about whether a church was the right place for our wedding. However, Rev Nick was so welcoming and openminded in his approach and really took the time to get to know us and ensure the ceremony felt like our own. We were able to bring in our own touches – a friend did our flowers, another was our organist and we had a choir made up of our pals who led our guests in song, which included some secular ones as well as hymns. The Church is stunning – the beautiful stained glass and medieval architecture gave real gravitas to the ceremony whilst still maintaining a light and airy feel. It looked amazing in the hazy July light, filled with our flowers and friends. I have such happy memories of the day; it was completely perfect and am so grateful to the team for hosting us.”

“There was obviously nowhere else other than St Mary Magdalene’s Church, that I would have considered getting married, having grown up in Rusper and known Father Nick for many years. It was a real privilege to hold our wedding in such a beautiful and historic building right at the heart of our lovely village.
The wedding flowers were so beautiful and are still commented on today. We were very proud to invite all our friends and family to share our special day in Rusper.”
